Let’s face it. As avid book lovers we often inevitably end up with a massive collection at home. Of course, this is only the case if you haven’t been wooed over to the Kindle dark side. If you are one of those people who looks around your home and finds books all over the place, don’t worry, you’re not alone.
One of the secrets to being a pro book hoarder, is having a disciplined organization system so that your books don’t end up being household clutter. Organizing your home library doesn’t have to be complicated, all you need are a few tips.
Allow us to share some expert tips for simplifying and organizing your home library:
1. Be realistic about your collection. Sometimes, no matter what, there are just some books that we shouldn’t keep. If you have a book that is moldy or falling apart, it may be time to part with it. Of course, you can never ever have too many books, but sometimes it’s nice to make room by donating to a used bookstore or library too.
2. Separate your books into different rooms. If you’re an avid cookbook collector, find a way to organize them into your kitchen décor. Gardening books could go on the wall by the door to the garden, novels in the bedroom, etc.
3. Organize your books by genre. Books can easily be divided into genres like romance, mystery, true crime, science fiction, etc. Once you’ve organized your books into manageable subsections, you can then alphabetize them by author.
4. Try getting techy about it. There are a variety of new smartphone apps and websites for home library organization. LibraryThing is an easy way to create an online catalogue of your collection. You can even share your collection with fellow bibliophiles to find new book recommendations and even make new friends. Online book club, anyone?
