5 Books by Female Authors to Read This Summer

The sun is out and the days are long, and here in Puerto Vallarta things have slowed down and we are blissfully looking for new books to enjoy on the beach this summer. We put together a list of 5 books we’d like to check out this season, and decided we would share it with all of you!

Tangerine by Christine Mangan: We don’t know about you, but we LOVED Gone Girl. So this book definitely caught our eye. Alice Shipley and her husband move to Morocco, and suddenly a friend from her past shows up to visit them. Shortly afterwards, Alice’s husband goes missing. This book is on the top of our list to read ASAP, plus…it’s been optioned for a movie starring Scarlett Johansson!

The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware: Who doesn’t love a good mystery novel at the pool? In this story we meet Hal, a tarot card reader who receives a letter about a huge inheritance, but quickly realizes it’s been sent to the wrong person. However, being the superstitious person that she is, she decides to go to the funeral anyway, only to realize that there is something very, very wrong with the situation.

Another Side of Paradise by Sally Koslow: Take a journey back in time to the 1920s, and follow Scott Fitzgerald during his later, less successful years as he falls into a romance with a witty gossip columnist who may or may not be able to help him rediscover his lost spark.

Look Alive Out There by Sloane Crosley: This collection of essays will have everyone wonder what in the world you’re reading because we guarantee you will absolutely be laughing out loud. Dive into the witty author’s experiences with befriending swingers to making peace with her own fertility.

Barracoon by Zora Neale Hurston: This book is extremely unique due to the fact that it was actually written in the 1920s but was rejected by Viking Press due to “unconventional dialect”. After 87 years, she’s finally been able to get her story of Cudjo Lewis, the last known survivor of the Atlantic slave trade, published and available to the public.
