Read More Books: The Importance of Making Time for Reading

Did you know that reading boosts emotional intelligence? Not only does reading exercise your brain, but it has also been proven to be a crucial part of emotional intelligence and self-expression development for children and adults alike. Making time for reading is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle.

We get it, often reading doesn’t come in as a top priority when you’ve got a really busy schedule. It can often be very difficult to find time to read, but we’ve got a few tips to help you find the time to read more books.

  1. Start small. When setting a new reading goal, focus on setting realistic expectations for yourself. For example, start with a goal of five pages a day. If you realize that you’re hitting that goal with no issues, try ten pages a day, then twenty, etc.
  2. Find out what interests you. Choosing to read a book simply because it’s been deemed important literature might be a difficult way to get into the book at all. Take some time to figure out which genre is most interesting to you, and maybe set aside some time to read some book reviews to make sure you’re choosing the right read for you.
  3. Bring your book with you. You’ll be surprised how many opportunities you’ll find to squeeze some reading time in throughout your day. Having your book with you in your car or in your work bag can make it easier to take advantage of the little quiet moments during your day!
