3 Autobiographies of Female Writers That You Cannot Not Miss

We will celebrate the month of March by reading the autobiographies of women who expressed part of their lives in words, with the strong essence of their experiences, reflections, joys and deepest feelings.

This list of women writers is only a beginning. The intention is that you immerse yourself in the wonderful world of autobiographies and find jewels that surely will excite you and more than once you will identify yourself with some situations of female characters whom the plot revolves around.

  • Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, by Maya Angelou. Marguerite Annie Johnson, original name of this pioneer author, shares how she survived the great events of her life, in an exciting and moving story that unfolds through her childhood and adolescence. It is the first of a whole saga of autobiographies of Angelou, poet, actress, singer and activist, who became a universal banner.
  • The Year of Magical Thinking, by Joan Didion. Two fundamental events for the author are addressed in this autobiography. She talks about the impact they had on her life and how she got ahead. A very emotional book that takes us through her personal experience.
  • Fierce Attachments: A Memoir, by Vivian Gornick. This American author shares her memoirs in a story that is already considered a classic of its kind. She recallsher childhood in the Bronx, as well as the relationship with her mother, between walks through the streets of the city.
