Enjoy horror and suspense narratives of the authors most recommended by readers

On this occasion, we’ll share with you a selection of horror and suspense authors who are most recommended by their readers. You can either read them this season or any other time you want to be shaken by the most macabre, delusional and mysterious stories.

• We begin with a consecrated author. Yes, H.P. Lovecraft remains in the public eye. If you are new to horror literature, you can start with The Cats of Ulthar, written in 1920. It was one of the early stories of the author. Now, if you want to go all in, read The Call of Cthulhu, written in 1926 and published in 1928. It’s a canonical and consolidated work that deals with a cult adoring this central figure, a very ancient extraterrestrial god that surely, it will shock you.

• Another established author who remains one of the favorites is Edgar Allan Poe, 19th century author, creator of different memorable stories in the public imagination. The Raven (poem), The Black Cat, The Tell-Tale Heart, and The Fall of the House of Usher, are just some of the short-format narratives, characteristics of this author who also inaugurates the genre of police literature.

• His works have made it to the big screen with great success. We are talking about Stephen King, a favorite of the followers of the horror, mystery and fantasy genre. If you have already seen any of the films that are based on his work, you cannot miss the pleasure of reading his novels. They will give you another approach and enrich your experience with this acclaimed author. We recommend Animal Cemetery, Carrie, The Shining, The Green Mile.

Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu is an Irish author of Gothic horror and mystery stories. One of his best known works is Carmilla, which is about a female vampire. It is a precursor piece, which has also been adapted to film.

• Since we are talking about elegant and sophisticated vampires, we recommend the entire Anne Rice saga and her Vampire Chronicles. With this saga, the author has become one of the most widely read of the genre. In the nineties her novel Interview with the vampire was adapted film, achieving great success. Although this adaptation of her work represented a big break, we recommend reading the entire saga. In it, the author abounds in details, atmospheres and existential controversies of several of her characters when facing the challenge of immortality. A saga that will make you fall in love.
