3 of the Best Books to Movies Adaptations

Everyone knows about a book-to-movie adaptation that left them a little disappointed. For example, I am willing to bet that the Twilight movie series didn’t exactly come out how fans of the books had hoped. However, there have been many times when a book comes alive perfectly on the big screen, some good examples of books made into movies could be the many Stephen King novels like “The Shining”, “It”, or something more recent like Frank Herbert’s “Dune”.

Because some book-to-movie adaptations don’t come out as expected, We’ve put together a short list of 5 movies that are good examples of a successful adjustment to the big screen.

#1 “Where the Crawdads Sing” (2022), by Delia Owens

The story focuses on Kya (Daisy Edgar-Jones), who was abandoned at a young age and raised herself in the North Carolina marshes. Years later, the lonely, mysterious girl is accused of murdering town heartthrob Chase (Harris Dickinson), who’d fallen for her but kept their romance secret from his family.

After the novel shot out of the gates and was flying off of the shelves in 2018, a film adaptation was quickly in the works. Produced by Reese Witherspoon, the film has been well received as being very true to the original story which is often a good thing when it comes to making books into movies.

#2 “Stand by Me” (1986), by Stephen King

After the death of one of his friends, a writer recounts a childhood journey with his friends to find the body of a missing boy.

Known as a timeless classic, “Stand by Me” is one of the fantastic depictions of a novel on screen. Anyone who has seen this movie, or read the book understands its fame. Along with its simplicity, it is so easy to be sucked into the lovability and relatability of the characters.

#3 "Boy in the Striped Pajamas" (2008), by John Boyne

Through the innocent eyes of Bruno, the eight-year-old son of the commandant at a German concentration camp, a forbidden friendship with a Jewish boy on the other side of the camp fence has startling and unexpected consequences.

I read this book as a school assignment and I will never forget how powerful the story was. When watching the movie with my classmates and seeing the way it was affecting us, I knew I wasn’t alone. For me, this is one of the best Book-to-movie adaptations.

So there you have it! 3 awesome books turned into movies that you can start with.
